What You Can Expect from MSH

Benefits

Our team of dedicated professionals spans across the globe, with most of our staff members living and working outside the United States. We take pride in offering benefits that not only attract but also retain top talent. Supporting our global team members and their families is a top priority for us.

While our benefits differ from country to country, aligning with local regulations and customs, we are committed to providing a robust compensation and benefits package that encompass competitive salaries, performance incentives, health coverage, retirement and long-term savings plans, generous leave policies, and additional financial support in accordance with local standards.

Professional Development

We are passionate about nurturing our employees’ growth and view staff development as one of our strategic roadmap goals. We believe that personal development is a partnership, a journey shared by both the individual and our organization.

During our annual performance development cycle, each team member crafts a personalized Professional Development Plan, and works closely with their supervisor to identify opportunities for growth that align with an employee’s career goals. These opportunities range from engaging online courses and certifications made available through our partnership with eCornell Learning and other platforms, to challenging “stretch assignments” that empower employees to take on greater levels of responsibility.

MSH Scholarship Fund

The MSH Scholarship Fund, generously backed by our Board of Directors and Leadership Team, embodies our unwavering commitment to fostering local talent and ensuring sustainability in the communities we serve around the world. This initiative reflects our deep belief in nurturing knowledge and expertise that will carry MSH’s mission of improving health and saving lives far into the future.

Our in-country team members can tap into this fund for a wide array of professional development endeavors, including degree programs, certification courses, workshops, and participation in conferences. We understand that each career journey is unique, so we’re here to support both comprehensive degree programs and smaller-scale learning that aligns with individual timelines and budget constraints. The fund can also be used to acquire essential resources, from books to online subscriptions, that directly contribute to an employee’s professional growth.

Our Values

In 2022, MSH ran an inclusive process involving hundreds of staff from more than 20 countries, to determine our organizational values. Please take the time to review our values as these are the core ethics, behaviors and principles we expect everyone at MSH to live in their work. If these values speak to you, we welcome you to join our organization.

Respect

At MSH, respect is at the center of our mission and everything we do. Respect for each other; respect for our partners and donors; and respect for every person who is touched by our work, wherever they are in the world. We are an inclusive, people-centered organization that respects divergent views. Collaboration, humility, and empathy enable us to hear and act on the best ideas from our stakeholders and achieve the greatest impact. We seek to recognize the efforts of everyone involved in our vital work and support their diverse needs.

Accountability

MSH’s work depends on trust among communities, partner organizations, governments, and donors. We manage the funds entrusted to us responsibly and with the utmost integrity. We believe that as a mission-driven, nonprofit organization, we are financially and morally accountable to deliver the highest quality work. We seek to be transparent and insist on accountability among one another and our partners. We take personal and professional responsibility—and pride—in our work and the impact it has.

Equity

MSH is a global organization with colleagues from widely diverse backgrounds. As we seek to deliver on the promise of universal health coverage, we know that historical and current injustices affect different communities in many ways. Equity is central to our response: seeking to understand, address, and overcome the systemic inequities behind the intractable problems that undermine health care advances. We seek to develop the capacity of our colleagues and partners and to elevate health leaders and emerging professionals globally. By taking this approach, we improve the health outcomes of those who have been most disenfranchised and create greater health equity.

Impact

At MSH, we strive for impact and a culture of evidence-based actions in all we do. Our technical expertise, professionalism, data-driven decision making, quality program delivery, and ambition to accomplish more are essential to ensure that we achieve the greatest impact for our partner communities around the world. We seek to learn from each experience and share that learning with one another and our peer organizations. We take a systems thinking approach to ensure the quality of our activities to secure long-lasting impact. We believe local partnerships result in global impact.

Ethics & Conduct

MSH is committed to promoting a culture of legal compliance, as well as ethical conduct.

To achieve the mission of saving lives and improving health, MSH must consistently demonstrate that it is committed to conducting its business with high ethical standards by dealing fairly and honestly with all parties and strongly condemning and actively preventing fraud and unethical acts. By adhering to the highest standards of ethical conduct MSH demonstrates to donors/clients that we can be trusted to do the right thing when managing their resources and demonstrates to beneficiaries that we are worthy partners in building strong, resilient, sustainable health systems.

Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action

MSH is an equal opportunity employer and will not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, creed, national origin, age, veteran status, or disability unrelated to job requirements. MSH will take affirmative action to ensure that qualified applicants are employed and that employees are treated without regard to their race, age, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran and disability status. In compliance with U.S. Department of Labor Executive Order 11246, Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Section 4212 of the Vietnam Era Readjustment Assistance Act, MSH has developed and maintains an affirmative action program and plan.

Procurement Integrity

Much of MSH’s work is funded either directly or indirectly by the US government. We comply with federal procurement regulations in our business practices and with USAID regulations relating to recruitment of staff and consultants. The general rule is to avoid strictly any conflict of interest or even the appearance of conflict of interest in relationships. MSH’s business activities are at all times conducted in accordance with government regulations on procurement integrity.
