Senior Laboratory Technical Advisor

Dr. Alaine Umubyeyi Nyaruhirira has 19 years of combined experience as a lecturer, researcher, and public health professional. She is currently the Senior Laboratory Advisor for MSH, providing technical support to the national laboratory networks of several countries in sub-Saharan Africa to build capacity in implementing TB- and HIV-related services. Dr. Nyaruhirira has developed broad expertise in all TB lab-related matters, including quality assurance/quality control systems, data management and analysis, designing national sample transportation systems, and developing training materials and standard operating procedures for new diagnostic techniques.

Prior to joining us, Dr. Nyaruhirira worked as a researcher and trainer on MDR-TB and molecular epidemiology at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Belgium and at the Columbia University Project (ICAP) in Rwanda. She holds a doctorate in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences and a master’s degree in public health from the Free University at Brussels, Belgium.
