Jacob Hughes has over 20 years of experience in global health, across more than 20 countries. His expertise includes nine years working in the field on national health system reforms and community, as well as facility-level primary health care projects to improve maternal and child health/family planning and reproductive health outcomes. Hughes leads MSH’s development and application of systems-thinking approaches and supervises technical work in systems thinking for health; universal health coverage (UHC); leadership, governance, and capacity building; policy and advocacy; supply chains and lab systems; human resources for health; management systems; and learning and knowledge management. Hughes has served as senior advisor in USAID’s Office of Health Systems; advised donors and health ministries in Liberia, Uganda, Haiti, and South Sudan on health systems strengthening, health finance, program design and evaluation, and aid effectiveness; and headed regional program portfolios in Africa and Central Asia for a UK-based health NGO. He earned a master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Minnesota.
