Leadership, Management & Governance (LMG) for Midwifery Managers Certificate Course

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) asserts that midwives could deliver up to 87 percent of the world’s reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health services if properly trained and equitably deployed. To strengthen midwives’ abilities to overcome health system challenges and deliver improved services, the USAID-funded Leadership, Management & Governance project developed the LMG for Midwifery Managers certificate course. This course consists of a five-day offsite workshop focused on six areas prioritized by a skills gap assessment: assertive communication, advocacy, mentoring, data use for decision-making, change management, and strategic problem solving. Following this workshop, midwife participants utilize their new skills to implement 6-month action plans to improve health outcomes in their clinics – clearly demonstrating the link between leadership, management, and governance skills and service delivery. Course results are then measured by comparing baseline and target indicators after 6 months of implementation.
