Africa CDC and MSH

Advancing Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda

Management Sciences for Health (MSH) and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) are partnering to advance Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda.

Through a three-year strategic partnership and Joint Action Plan, Africa CDC and MSH are bringing together continental leadership, technical expertise, and decades of country experience to support African Union Member States in strengthening institutions, financing health more sustainably, and building greater resilience and self-reliance.

Turning Continental Priorities into Practical Action

Across Africa, governments are navigating a major transition in how health is financed, led, and delivered. The partnership creates a platform to move shared priorities into action—connecting country needs with technical expertise, implementation experience, and opportunities for investment and resource mobilization. Partnership in Action

From UNGA Dialogue to a Call to Action

In September 2026, Africa CDC and MSH convened a high-level dialogue on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, bringing together government leaders from Benin, Cameroon, Kenya, Nigeria, and Somalia alongside senior representatives from Gavi, the Global Fund, the Pandemic Fund, UNICEF, Unitaid, and WHO Africa.

The discussion focused on a central challenge: pandemic preparedness cannot sit apart from the institutions and systems countries depend on every day. The resulting Africa CDC–MSH Call to Action on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response calls on African Union Member States and partners to embed preparedness in national systems, financing, primary and community health care, the health workforce, and reliable access to medicines and supplies.

Built on Decades of Partnership Across Africa

For more than five decades, MSH has worked alongside governments and institutions across Africa to strengthen how health systems are financed, managed, and delivered. The Africa CDC–MSH partnership connects that country experience with a continental agenda for greater health security and sovereignty—creating new opportunities for African-led collaboration, investment, and action.
