Changing World, Changing MSH

Our Strategy 2023-2030

We work alongside countries to strengthen health systems and sustain progress as change accelerates. Uneven health gains, persistent inequality, financial hardship from health costs, and declining aid budgets demand audacious action.

Partners and funders point to our technical expertise as more relevant than ever and our relationships with ministries of health and local partners as critical to sustaining results. We co-create practical, science-based solutions to local health systems challenges so countries can sustain high-quality, people-centered primary health care.

Guided by Sustainable Development Goal 3, good health and well-being, we act on five priorities: Localize our efforts, Unlock our talent, Focus our expertise, Demonstrate with data, and Mobilize partners and funders.

Strategy Tree Transparent

Our Strategy 2023–2030

MSH will be audacious in helping countries adapt science-based solutions for local health systems challenges that will sustain the delivery of high-quality, people-centered primary health care. We will work in any geography where there is demand for our services from local partners.

We will measure the outcomes of our strategy by how they contribute to the SDGs, especially

  • Reduce preventable morbidity and mortality (SDG3)
  • Progress toward universal health coverage (SDG3)
  • Improve gender equality (SDG5)
  • Reduce poverty (SDG1).

We have also heard the call to action to scale up the global response to climate change and have the ambition to pursue carbon-negative business operations over the course of the strategy.

Since our founding in 1971, MSH has been rooted in local partnerships. It is from these roots that the branches of our strategy will flourish. MSH will act boldly to Localize our efforts, Unlock our talent, Focus our expertise, Demonstrate with data, and Mobilize partners and funders.

Focus

  • Equip country leaders to build resilient, people-centered health systems that are prepared for pandemics, disease outbreaks, and climate change
  • Deepen our expertise in health economics and financing, capacity strengthening, pharmaceutical systems, and supply chain to meet growing country and partner needs

Unlock

  • Share knowledge and put learning into practice across MSH and with partners

Demonstrate

  • Use leading-edge data collection and management techniques to develop innovations, improve our work, and impact population health
  • Strengthen the ability of governments, the local private sector, local partners, frontline health workers, and communities to use data to drive better decisions and innovations
  • Use data to add to the global body of knowledge and demonstrate the impact of health systems interventions

Mobilize

  • Seek out strategic partnerships with organizations working at the cutting edge of areas relevant to our strategic priorities
  • Work directly with governments, private sector, and local partners to mobilize resources for new ideas
  • Broaden our body of partnerships to drive more impact, especially with multilateral organizations, the private sector, and philanthropies
