Dr. James Tanu Duworko, Chief of Party for the MSH-led US Agency for International Development (USAID) Local Health Solutions (LHS) Activity in Liberia, has more than 28 years of experience across the areas of health systems design; research; family planning/reproductive health; maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health; epidemiology; and communicable disease prevention and control, specifically for HIV and malaria. Dr. Duworko leads the LHS team in strengthening the Liberian health system, working in close collaboration with the Government of Liberia and four local partners. Prior to joining MSH, he worked with USAID for 11 years at national and international levels and was Director of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)-funded Partnership for Research on Vaccines and Infectious Diseases in Liberia (PREVAIL). He also served as a consultant for PATH to the Typhoid Vaccine Acceleration Consortium (TyVAC). In the Liberian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, he worked as a consultant, country health officer, and program manager for the Emergency Preparedness and Response Unit and the National AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infection Control Program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Cuttington University, a doctorate in medicine from the University of Liberia, and a master’s degree in biostatistics and epidemiology from Wits University.
