Principal Technical Advisor, Digital Health

Mr. Kim Øgendahl Hoppenworth is a digital health leader and licensed pharmacist with more than 20 years of global experience in pharmaceutical systems, regulatory innovation, and digital transformation. Currently serving as a Principal Technical Advisor at Management Sciences for Health in Arlington, Virginia, he brings a rare blend of deep pharmaceutical expertise and cutting-edge digital acumen to projects across Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Mr. Hoppenworth began his career in clinical information before moving into public health systems. He has worked in more than a dozen countries strengthening regulatory frameworks, building national health data warehouses, and designing tools to improve access to medicines. His approach combines open-source technologies, evidence-based planning, and an inclusive vision of health equity.

He has led the development of OpenRIMS.org, a modular digital platform supporting regulatory workflows in six low- and middle-income countries, and pioneered AI-powered knowledge management systems using tools like LangChain and Verba/Weaviate. He also supported the COVID-19 response by contributing to an emergency data hub and data platforms reaching thousands of clinics and health workers and additionally elearning platforms to ensure health worker skills. He is passionate about systems that are sustainable, interoperable, and country-owned.

Mr. Hoppenworth has a master’s in pharmacy from the University of Copenhagen and his technical skillset includes Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Oracle OCI, PostgreSQL, PowerBI, SuperSet. He is fluent in English and Danish, with working knowledge of German and French. His certifications span AI in healthcare (Stanford), business analytics (Cambridge), and IT support professional (Google), underscoring his commitment to continuous learning.  Whether advising ministries of health, mentoring teams, or writing code, he thrives at the intersection of policy and practice.
