Dr. Kristin Johnson isthe Director of Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, Learning, and Technology (MERL-Tech) at MSH. With more than two decades of experience, she is recognized for balancing academic rigor with the practical realities of implementation—ensuring evidence not only meets global standards but also drives decision-making in real-world health systems.
Dr. Johnson brings deep expertise in implementation science, mixed-methods research, and complexity-aware evaluation. She has led the design and execution of rigorous yet pragmatic studies, including randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental designs, observational studies, and systematic reviews. Her methodological strengths span quantitative and qualitative approaches—applying tools such as structured surveys, semi-structured interviews and focus groups, multivariable data modeling, time series analysis, and thematic coding. She frequently leads the development of theories of change, frameworks, learning agendas, and adaptive data strategies tailored to dynamic environments.
Her work spans reproductive and maternal health, infectious diseases, chronic conditions, digital health, health workforce development, pharmaceutical systems, and supply chain.
She has supported projects across Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. Dr. Johnson holds a Doctorate and Master of Public Health from Boston University.
