Strengthening Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Surveillance in Nigeria: An Urgent Call for Coordinated Action
Strengthening Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Surveillance in Nigeria: An Urgent Call for Coordinated Action

This policy brief examines Nigeria’s AMR surveillance landscape through insights from the Fleming Fund Phase II Country Grant. Findings reveal key gaps: insufficient government financing, limited laboratory and data coordination, and weak cross-sector integration. Despite policy commitments through the AMR Coordinating Committee and the One Health AMR National Action Plan 2.0 (2024–2028), coverage remains limited and heavily reliant on public facilities and external funding. The brief presents practical recommendations to expand sentinel sites, increase domestic investment, and upgrade laboratories to strengthen surveillance nationwide.
