Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Nigeria’s Animal Health Sector: Policy Actions for a Sustainable Future

This policy brief underscores the urgent need to strengthen AMR surveillance in Nigeria’s animal health sector, where limited data, resource gaps, and weak enforcement of antibiotic use guidelines threaten both food security and public health. While progress has been made under the One Health AMR National Action Plan 2.0, surveillance remains incomplete, with only six sentinel laboratories established. The brief calls for sustainable funding, expanded private sector engagement, and harmonized reporting protocols to curb the spread of resistant pathogens.
