Abstract

Assisted by the USAID Medicines Technologies and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) Program, six Ugandan hospitals conducted antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) interventions from June 2019 to July 2022. The initiatives targeted prevalent conditions linked to antibiotic misuse, including urinary tract infections (UTIs), upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs), and surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP). This article outlines the impact of these interventions, showcasing substantial reductions in overall antibiotic use for URTIs and UTIs.
