Management Sciences for Health to Continue Hosting the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism for UHC2030

Arlington, VA—March 4, 2024—Management Sciences for Health (MSH) announced today that it has been selected by UHC2030 to continue leading the Secretariat for the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism (CSEM) for UHC2030 along with WACI Health, a leading Africa regional advocacy organization. UHC2030 is the global movement to build stronger health systems for universal health coverage (UHC) and is hosted by the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation in Development. MSH has served as the Secretariat for the CSEM, the civil society constituency of the multistakeholder UHC2030 partnership, since 2018, with WACI Health co-hosting since 2020.

The new award extends MSH’s role to continue supporting the efforts of the 1,400+-member organizations of the CSEM in more than 130 countries across all regions of the world who are leading UHC-focused advocacy. The CSEM represents civil society organizations in UHC2030, elevating the voices of civil society and communities to ensure that UHC policies are equitable and inclusive and leave no one behind. This new award comes at a critical moment following a successful United Nations High-Level Meeting (HLM) on UHC in September 2023. A major priority of the CSEM this year is to support civil society at the country level to hold governments accountable for implementing commitments detailed in the political declaration on UHC that resulted from the HLM.

“Progress on UHC is off track, with half of the world’s population—4.5 billion people— lacking access to essential health services and 2 billion people experiencing financial hardship to access them,” said Amy Boldosser-Boesch, MSH’s Senior Director for Health Policy, Advocacy and Engagement, who oversees the Secretariat’s work. “There is an urgent need for countries to implement the commitments they made at the HLM last year to get progress on UHC back on track and meet the Sustainable Development Goal targets by 2030. We are delighted to continue hosting the CSEM, together with WACI Health, and providing support to CSEM members for their crucial advocacy efforts to advance progress on achieving UHC and fulfilling the promise of health for all in their countries.”
