MSH Welcomes Appointment of Peter Sands as Global Fund Executive Director
Management Sciences for Health (MSH) welcomes the appointment of Peter Sands as Executive Director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund). MSH has a broad and deep relationship with the Global Fund in the areas of technical support, governance, and most recently, grant implementation. MSH has led the USAID Grant Management Solutions (GMS)Project providing Global Fund technical support. In the past five years, the GMS Project has provided support to 350 Global Fund grants with an aggregate value of $13.3 billion, representing 49% of the Global Fund portfolio; 134 Global Fund Principal Recipients (PRs); and 52 Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanisms (CCMs) and three Global Fund Regional Coordinating Mechanisms (RCMs). GMS developed the CCM grant dashboard and PR grant dashboard among other management tools available on the Global Fund website, and the USAID Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG)Project also led by MSH developed the CCM orientation program also available on the Global Fund website.
MSH Health Programs Group (HPG) Senior Director Jason Wright is a member of the Global Fund Developed Country NGO Board constituency. He serves on the Global Fund Ethics and Governance Committee (EGC). He is currently participating in the Global Fund Board meeting in Geneva.
MSH has this year moved into grant implementation for the first time and has become a Global Fund sub-recipient (SR) in Angola under the HIV grant.

Sands served as Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered PLC from 2006 to 2015, having joined the bank in 2002 as Group Finance Director. He is a currently Chairman of the World Bank’s International Working Group on Financing Pandemic Preparedness and a research fellow at the Harvard Global Health Institute and the Mossavar Rahmani Center for Business and Government at Harvard’s Kennedy School.
