The Prevention and Organizational Systems – AIDS Care and Treatment Project (PRO-ACT)
The Prevention and Organizational Systems – AIDS Care and Treatment Project (PRO-ACT)
Overview
The Prevention and Organizational Systems – AIDS Care and Treatment Project (PRO-ACT), a part of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), was implemented in Nigeria from 2009 to 2016. PRO-ACT followed the two-year LMS AIDS Care and Treatment (LMS ACT) project, which provided treatment for AIDS patients in six states in the northern half of Nigeria. PRO-ACT, while following on LMS ACT and operating initially in the same six states (Kogi, Kwara, Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, and Niger), had two fundamentally additional aspects—a focus on community prevention and organizational systems strengthening. Its objectives were to maintain the 17 comprehensive care and treatment centers developed under LMS ACT, expand access, and strengthen systems.
