Management Sciences for Health Joins More than 60 Partners to Praise the US’s Renewed Commitment to Global Health Security and Advocate for Continued Funding

In a letter submitted to Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar on November 20, Management Sciences for Health (MSH) and more than 60 partner organizations and industry experts expressed appreciation for the US’s renewed commitment to the goals and activities of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) through 2024. The letter advocated for robust funding to support the Agenda’s efforts in the Administration’s FY2020 budget request to Congress and called for the timely release of the Administration’s Global Health Security Strategy.

The Global Health Security Agenda is a partnership and action plan for international preparedness to prevent and combat biological threats. Its activities include building local capacity and improving capabilities to prevent, detect, and respond to future disease outbreaks.

MSH works with countries to build resilient health systems that, in the event of an outbreak, continue to provide essential quality care and services. The organization invests in local preparedness, increased leadership capacity for response, and accountability mechanisms for a rapid multisectoral action—resulting in lives saved and economies protected. MSH has recently been awarded the USAID-funded Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) Program. A significant portion of the Program’s work focuses on health security through improved infection prevention and control at maternal and child health centers and on optimizing antimicrobial use in human health.
