Management Sciences for Health to Support Nigeria in Strengthening Cervical Cancer Data Systems and Integration into DHIS2

October 30 2025, Abuja, Nigeria—Management Sciences for Health (MSH) has been selected to support the Government of Nigeria in developing and integrating standardized data elements and indicators for cervical cancer screening and treatment into the country’s National Health Management Information System (NHMIS) and DHIS2 platform. Funded by the Gates Foundation, this effort will help embed routine cervical cancer data collection and reporting across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of care, enabling the government to monitor progress toward the WHO 90-70-90 elimination targets.

Working closely with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s Department of Health Planning, Research and Statistics; the National Cancer Control and Nuclear Medicine  Program; and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, MSH will lead a consultative process to identify, validate, and roll out cervical cancer indicators within NHMIS and DHIS2. These enhancements will strengthen national planning, performance management, and accountability for cervical cancer prevention and control.

A unified and integrated data system will provide greater visibility into service delivery and improve coordination and accountability across program and partners, accelerating progress toward eliminating cervical cancer as a public health threat in Nigeria.

“Nigeria’s leadership and commitment are driving real momentum toward cervical cancer elimination,” said Dr. Esther Ayandipo, MSH’s Senior Program Manager. “Our role is to support that vision with the right tools, data systems, and technical expertise so that progress is measurable, sustainable, and owned by the government.”

The initiative builds on MSH’s growing cervical cancer portfolio in Nigeria, including the Evidence-Informed Technical Advocacy for HPV Vaccine Introduction in Nigeria project, implemented with Women Advocates for Vaccine Access (WAVA) and Solina Health. Together, these efforts advance prevention, screening, and treatment to improve women’s health and strengthen data-driven decision-making.
