MSH wins Uganda’s Heroes in Health Awards
Management Sciences for Health has received the Heroes in Health Award (HIHA) 2020 in the “Excellence in Improving Access to Essential Medicines and Vaccines” category. Created by the Ministry of Health in Uganda with the support of Xtraordinary Media, the HIHA Awards celebrate exemplary public-private partnerships that provide solutions to pressing issues in Uganda’s health system. This is a public choice award, where members of the public nominate and vote for their heroes.
The award recognizes the work of the USAID-funded, MSH-led Uganda Health Supply Chain project to strengthen the national supply chain for outbreak and epidemic preparedness, mobilize over $80 million in funding from The US President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to fill public sector funding gaps for HIV commodities between 2018-2019, and build the capacity of health workers in medicines management, contributing to improved availability of data for decision making.
MSH was represented by Dr. Eric Lugada, the Chief of Party for the USAID-funded, MSH-led Uganda Strengthening Supply Chain Systems Activity at the awards ceremony in Kampala on November 6th, 2020. “For the last 10 years, MSH has worked in Uganda and supported the Ministry of Health. I dedicate this award to all previous and current MSH employees as we continue to build strong supply chain systems,” said Dr. Lugada as he accepted the award from the Board Chairman of Uganda’s National Medical Stores, Dr. Jotham Musinguzi.
