Ethiopia’s TB Program Response to Multiple Shock Conditions: Achievements and Lessons from the Eliminate TB Project

Ethiopia’s TB program has faced overlapping shocks, including COVID-19, conflict, drought, and population displacement, placing essential TB services at risk. This technical brief examines how the Eliminate TB Project worked with national and local partners to adapt service delivery, strengthen system resilience, and maintain critical TB services during disruption. Between 2020 and 2025, project-supported interventions contributed to the notification of more than 649,000 TB cases and expanded access to diagnostic services nationwide. The lessons highlight how sustained U.S. investment in integrated health systems can deliver measurable results, protect public health, and support more durable, country-led systems during humanitarian and public health emergencies.
