Implementation of a Medicines Verification System to Fight Falsified Products in Ukraine

Falsified medicines can endanger patient health by worsening medical conditions, prolonging illness, and fostering medicine resistance. Since 2019, the USAID-funded SAFEMed Activity has supported the Ukraine Ministry of Health in creating and implementing a medicines verification system in line with European Union standards. The new system will allow wholesalers, pharmacies, and other dispensers to reliably check a product’s authenticity, delivering safer, higher-quality medicines and protecting patient health despite the ongoing war.
