Supervision, Performance Assessment, and Recognition Strategy (SPARS) Approach Leads to Improved Performance in Malagasy District Pharmaceutical Warehouses
In Madagascar, district pharmacies face several challenges related to commodity quantification and distribution, which leads to stock outs of essential medicines within the district’s health facilities and, ultimately, negatively impacts the quality of health care. The USAID-funded IMPACT program adapted and implemented MSH’s Supervision, Performance Assessment, and Recognition Strategy (SPARS) approach, an indicator-based, multi-pronged intervention strategy that combines supervision, on-the-job training, and the provision of tools and guidelines to identify and prioritize issues and encourage progress by rewarding improvements, which led to improved performance in the district pharmacies.
