Management Sciences for Health Wins Prestigious Supply Chain Innovation Award

Award recognizes demonstrated excellence, innovation, and return on investment for a significant supply chain challenge

Arlington, VA—September 24, 2021—Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is the winner of this year’s Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) 2021 Supply Chain Innovation Award. The award recognizes MSH’s PEPFAR-funded work in Ukraine to ensure that lifesaving HIV and tuberculosis medicines reach every patient who needs them, which is conducted under the USAID Safe, Affordable, and Effective Medicines for Ukrainians (SAFEMed) Activity, and was announced during CSCMP’s Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition on September 22.

“We are delighted with this news and thank CSCMP for the recognition,” said MSH’s President and CEO Marian W. Wentworth. “This award is a testament to the hard work and creativity from our Ukrainian colleagues; the strong partnerships we’ve established with the national government, USAID, and the private sector; and overall a great example of how we can solve supply chain challenges working creatively and collaboratively. We are proud to continue our global legacy of supply chain innovations and we look forward to many more.”

MSH’s winning entry, titled, “Ukraine: Tapping a Private Fleet to Get Medicines to the Last Mile,” explained how MSH engaged a private pharmaceutical logistics company for last-mile distribution of HIV and TB medicines. The approach aimed to streamline fragmented public-sector logistics services while following supply chain best practices and improving patient outcomes. The presentation gave a glimpse of MSH’s pilot’s evolution, pioneering methods, promising results, and lessons learned, along with recommendations for national scale-up.

CSCMP’s Supply Chain Innovation Award recognizes teams who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and return on investment for a significant supply chain challenge. This year, the competition received more than 50 case study submissions. The judging committee—which includes the editorial board of SupplyChainBrain—narrowed it down to six finalists. Information about the finalists is available here.
