Strengthening HIV Responses for a New Era: MSH at IAS 2026

The global HIV response is entering a new era. As countries navigate funding transitions while working to sustain decades of progress, AIDS 2026—the International AIDS Society Conference—will focus on what comes next: country leadership, resilient health systems, and smarter ways to deliver impact.

At IAS 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Management Sciences for Health (MSH) will share evidence from Ethiopia and Ukraine demonstrating how strong health systems continue delivering HIV services—even in the face of conflict, resource constraints, and changing financing. Through five scientific presentations and participation in global policy discussions, MSH experts will contribute practical lessons for building more resilient, country-led HIV responses.

For 55 years, MSH has partnered with governments, communities, and local institutions to strengthen the systems that sustain HIV prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care. Today, that work is increasingly focused on helping countries integrate HIV services into stronger primary health care systems, strengthen supply chains and laboratory networks, improve pharmaceutical systems, build local leadership, and sustain progress for the future.

What MSH Is Contributing

Ukraine: Sustaining HIV services during war

MSH experts will present three abstracts highlighting how Ukraine has maintained access to HIV services throughout the war, including innovations in last-mile distribution of HIV and essential medicines, strengthened antiretroviral (ARV) forecasting and quantification systems, and optimization of regional laboratory networks to expand access to HIV testing despite ongoing disruptions.

Ethiopia: Fifteen years of integrated TB/HIV learning

MSH will present new evidence from more than 15 years of integrating tuberculosis and HIV services in Ethiopia, alongside methodological research exploring how implementation science can better evaluate integrated TB/HIV programs across geographically diverse epidemics.

Global leadership for the future of HIV

MSH will also contribute to discussions shaping the future of global health architecture through the HEAR Civil Society consultation process. Findings from the consultation will inform ongoing WHO discussions while MSH representatives participate in Global Village sessions focused on strengthening civil society leadership and advancing country-driven HIV responses.
