Burundi

Through the years, our programs have assisted in providing communities in Burundi with the knowledge and skills to identify, prevent and address key maternal and child health risks, including developed guidelines and job aids for community health workers.

Overview

In Burundi, we facilitated the scale-up of best practices to improve family planning and reproductive health services with a focus on quality assurance, expansion of method choice, and reaching underserved populations. Our work to strengthen the country’s pharmaceutical sector helped lay the groundwork of integrated community case management for malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhea in children under 5; improved the availability of medicines for malaria; and included the training of community health workers in pharmaceutical management, reporting tools and checklists for treated cases, and monitoring of medicine stock. Our leadership and management programs assisted in building the country’s capacity in compliance with standards and regulations under the Global Fund.
