Since 1994, we have worked in partnership with the Government of Senegal to reduce maternal and child mortality, increase awareness and uptake of family planning, and strengthen pharmaceutical management systems to address the high burden of infectious diseases.
Overview
In Senegal we have focused on improving the quality of child and reproductive health services through strengthening the technical competencies of nurses and midwives to deliver family planning, prenatal counseling, and emergency obstetric care, as well as promote exclusive breastfeeding. Our programs targeting nutrition and integrated management of childhood illnesses helped make significant progress in child nutrition, prenatal and newborn health services, and child health in Senegal. To help strengthen the pharmaceutical system and address the challenge of antimicrobial resistance, we are assisting the Senegal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in strengthening infection prevention and control practices and encouraging appropriate use of antibiotics.
