Supply Chain Strengthening (SCS) Activity
Supply Chain Strengthening (SCS) Activity

Overview
Over the last 15 years, significant investments have been made to develop Ethiopia’s supply chain and pharmaceutical system. This progress has helped improve the lives of women and children, combat infectious diseases, and enable the country to better respond to health emergencies. However, to reach the national goal of achieving universal health coverage by 2030, more work needs to be done to shift the supply chain to an integrated system that can ensure access to, and promote the rational use of, quality-assured, safe, effective medicines.
With support from the United States Government, MSH will work closely with a consortium of international partners and an all-Ethiopian, gender-balanced team of experts to implement the Supply Chain Strengthening (SCS) Activity. The Activity builds on MSH’s legacy of partnering with Ethiopia and aims to strengthen the capacity of local institutions, networks, and individuals to effectively manage supply chain services at all levels of the health system—from the Ministry of Health to individual facilities and communities. Through this integrated approach, MSH and its partners will help develop a more mature, sustainable supply chain that is able to provide consistent access to health products and pharmaceutical services, leading to better health outcomes for all Ethiopians.
Along with providing technical support to improve core supply chain processes, the Activity will focus on the following areas to help address operational, political, and relational challenges:
- Strengthen local leadership, management, and governance
- Increase country ownership and financing
- Expand private sector and civil society partnerships
- Develop data-driven processes and dashboards to increase data visibility
- Empower the health workforce with skills training and equitable leadership opportunities
